Job Description

Ares is seeking an Associate to join our Investment Accounting Data & Reporting team in Los Angeles. The successful candidate will join a growing team and work primarily on investment reporting and product control. This involves daily monitoring of asset level P&L and transactions, alongside creating and maintaining effective policies, procedures, and controls surrounding the investment accounting processes to ensure accuracy of reporting. Another integral part of the role will be client reporting: liaising with IR to onboard new clients to our reporting system and analyzing investment activity to assist in client inquiries. This role will also help with monthly and quarterly deliverables, internal reporting needs and the analysis of period over period flux.

The Investment Accounting team is part of the global Investment Operations team within the broader Finance & Accounting Operations organization and has a presence in California, New York, London and Mumbai. The team is responsible for the firmwide analysis of new/existing investments and daily profit and loss, development of accounting /other investment policies as well as internal/external reporting and works closely with Fund Accounting, FP&A, Operations, Compliance, Portfolio Management, Middle Office, and Front Office.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate and implement the company’s technological initiatives as it pertains to the investment process, including building and maintaining internal modeling and monitoring tools
  • Assist in managing relationships and liaise with internal resources, offshoring resources, external fund administrator(s) to meet all reporting deadlines
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly investor and regulatory deliverables and other ad-hoc reporting for investor relations, analysts, and portfolio managers.
  • Assist in creating new client reporting templates and establishing parameters for report
  • Daily investigation of material profit and loss items and coordinate with third party admin to correct any inconsistencies
  • Assist with system implementations and upgrades; implement new workflows and processes

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting required
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

Experience Required:

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience
  • Exposure to alternative assets, preferably credit instruments listed below:
  • Experience with bank debt, bonds, CLO equity, structured products, and other fixed income products
  • Working knowledge of investment accounting and the investment lifecycle
  • PowerBI/Alteryx experience preferred
  • Strong Excel skills

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$105,000 - $125,000
