The Team

Enterprise Business Management (EBM) Team / Finance and Resource Management Division


The Finance organization at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation partners with colleagues to invest our resources wisely and boldly in service of people who need it most! The Enterprise Business Management Team provides product and business ownership to information products that support resource allocation and management, investment and portfolio management, and services to help meet teams’ data and reporting needs to enable custom analysis and exploration. We enable the data and business processes that fuel enterprise planning and central reporting, as well as provide the financial analysis and planning support for operational, central, and the executive leadership.

Your Role

This role focuses on the business analysis and product management of solutions related to our suite of data and reporting tools with an emphasis on the tools used for portfolio management. You will collaborate with foundation programmatic and operational partners to thoroughly analyze business problems related to data and reporting including defining business requirements, solution design, implementation, and continuous improvement. Closely collaborating with your Data & Reporting colleagues, responsibilities include developing products from early ideation to solution implementation in collaboration with IT, planning and managing the implementation of various solutions, developing and executing readiness activities, communication strategies, and resource materials, engaging with partners, and providing customer support. You will also engage in ad hoc analysis support, and execute regular operational processes related to data management and financial reporting.

What You'll Do

  • Perform detailed analysis of business problems, processes, and customer needs to define requirements for appropriate systems, tools and/or process solutions.

  • Elicit, analyze, validate, and manage needs/requirements of partners and customers.

  • Define potential solutions and desired outcomes and contribute to prioritization decisions according to business and stakeholder value.

  • Seek out and validate requirements and act as voice of customer between the customer community and the technical team responsible for solution delivery.

  • Serve as the conduit for requirements that flow between the stakeholder and customer community and the technical team responsible for solution delivery.

  • Contribute to content development and delivery for implementation/change management activities, including communication, training and education, resources, and customer support inbox management.

  • Build positive, constructive relationships with customer and stakeholder groups to enable a deep understanding of their work and experience with current investment systems, processes, and tools for optimal solution and implementation design and delivery.

  • Lead other business analysts and contingent workforce on key work streams, provide knowledge, guidance, and recommendations in business analyst activities and expertise development.

  • Collaborate with program and operations partners (e.g., Finance, IT, Grants and Contract Services,) on program implementation and continuous improvement.

  • Compare actual performance with planned performance, analyze trends to inform program improvements, evaluate possible alternatives, and drive implementation of ongoing improvements.

  • Execute rhythm of business analytic and coding activities as needed, and routine report maintenance and remediation activities.

  • Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; escalate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate stakeholders.

Your Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience with 7+ years of experience in analytics or reporting product development.

  • Detailed knowledge of formal and informal intersections and interdependencies and understanding of how to frame problems, evaluate issues, see downstream effects, and identify future implications across the end-to-end system to help prioritize solutions.

  • Solid understanding of how to identify waste and inefficiencies in business processes and lead right sized and efficient solution development and delivery.

  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills working with many types of data and experience using tools like excel to conduct and present information.

  • Experience developing products from early ideation to solution testing and implementation.

  • Hands on report development experience in PowerBI and an understanding of how data moves from source systems, through a data warehouse, into reporting.

  • Experience in SQL and MDX/DAX is a plus.

  • Experience with change management/implementation activities including requirement management.

Must be able to legally work in the country where this position is located without visa sponsorship.

The salary range for this role is $137,500.00- $206,200.00 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences where our offices are located, in Seattle, Washington D.C., and Boston (Cambridge). The range for this role in these locations is $149,800.00- $224,600.00 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission and new hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and the midpoint salary range. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
