OverviewBreakthrough Energy is in search of a dynamic and strategic Strategy & Operations Associate to join our Partnerships team. In this role, the Strategy & Operations Associate will play a crucial part in supporting cross-program partner operations and strategy development, as we engage with leading strategics, both corporate and philanthropic, worldwide, to achieve our mission of net-zero carbon by 2050. The primary focus will be optimizing the efficiency of the Partnerships team through organizational effectiveness and process management. This role will drive cross-functional engagement, ensuring operational success, and contribute to infrastructure development for the team. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic and operational mindset, along with exceptional communication skills. And should be comfortable advising on high-level strategic issues while executing tactical activities. An entrepreneurial and proactive approach to programmatic objectives is essential, as you navigate a complex and dynamic environment. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Partnerships. Core Responsibilities
  • Support process development and execution for the partnerships team, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain foundational infrastructure for partner management, operations, and scaled partner success.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-program partner operations and strategy across all Breakthrough Energy programs (e.g., Catalyst, Fellows) within the partnerships team.
  • Act as the linchpin of the Partnerships team, connecting various programmatic priorities to maximize impact.
  • Collaborate with all Breakthrough Energy efforts to understand stakeholder needs and goals, communicate value propositions, identify engagement opportunities, and deliver impact for the organization.
  • Conduct research on relevant issues, corporations, NGOs, and individuals aligned with Breakthrough's mission, synthesizing information for the team's use.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of systems and structures to ensure accurate documentation and tracking of project and program information.
  • Support collateral development to inform program strategy, operations, and external engagement.
  • Prepare strategy and briefing materials for executive-level meetings.
Requirements
  • Achieve tangible results in a fast-paced organizational setting, with preference for 3-4 years of experience in consulting, policy, finance, or climate-related fields. Your track record should highlight your ability to drive impactful outcomes and contribute to strategic initiatives.
  • Preference given to candidates with a relevant degree, although equivalent practical experience and demonstrated expertise will also be considered.
  • Display meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accurate execution of tasks and consistently delivering high-quality work.
  • Exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills, consistently finding creative and forward-looking solutions to complex challenges.
  • Thrive in collaborative environments, actively participating and contributing to projects at all levels. Your ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and leverage diverse perspectives will be instrumental to success.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and/or verbal, effectively conveying complex information and representing the organization's positions and priorities.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required for the role, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in managing travel arrangements and maintaining a strong presence during off-site engagements.
  • Possess proficiency in utilizing the Microsoft suite of tools, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, OneNote, and Excel, to perform job responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
  • Exhibit an entrepreneurial orientation, showcasing resilience and adaptability in navigating ambiguity and thriving amidst rapid change.
  • The San Francisco Bay Area is the preferred location for this position; however, candidates must be based in a state where Breakthrough Energy is registered or already has an established presence.
The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 annually. Salary offers within this range will vary depending on several factors that include but are not limited to education, experience, skills, relevant certifications, and other qualifications. Employees may also be eligible for bonuses based on individual performance.In addition to compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package.
