Job Summary:
Utah’s NHL franchise is looking for a Manager of Hockey Communications who will help shape and manage the communications strategy and public relations efforts for Utah’s NHL franchise. This role involves implementing strategic communications plans, coordinating media relations and press conferences, and supporting onsite media and game day staff. Acting as a liaison between the team and the public, the ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of the hockey industry and exceptional communication skills. This position is housed in the Communications department and reports directly to the Director of Hockey Communications.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with the Communications staff on creating strategies and producing plans for hockey-related events, media opportunities and summary reports
- Assist the Director of Hockey Communications with player and coach requests from the media and staff on a regular, day-to-day basis for practices, games and events
- Responsible for overseeing game notes, game day info sheet and all hockey graphics
- Serve as team statistician and update player information documents after every game to ensure accurate stats are noted
- Update and maintain the team’s content hub where media can locate video, imagery and documents from team appearances, press conferences and other events
- Handle all credentialing for local and national media for all hockey-related events and in-season game credentialing
- Track and analyze media coverage and PR efforts to measure effectiveness and share daily with members of Hockey Operations and Smith Entertainment Group
- Write press releases and media advisories
- Assist with talking points, stats and background notes for game broadcasts throughout the season
- Research, draft and edit all team guides (Media Guide, Playoff Guide, Draft Guide and Yearbook)
- Help build out and constantly update media lists.
- Travel for road games, as well as team and/or league events, on an as needed basis
- Responsible for overseeing the Coordinator, Hockey Communications, and game night interns
- Protect the reputation of the company

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in PR, journalism, communications, or related field or the equivalent training or experience
- Five years of demonstrated professional experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for the National Hockey League
- Must have solid knowledge of the NHL, statistics, and hockey terminology
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.), and possess social media skills
- Must have strong communication and writing skills
- Must be detail-oriented and organized in work approach
- Must possess problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
- Must work well in a team environment
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with the utmost discretion and diplomacy
- Ability to work a flexible, event-based schedule that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours
- Position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah; remote work (full or part time) is not permitted
- Ability to travel
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally
- Must be able to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift 20 Ibs
