Job Description: The Pittsburgh Penguins seek a creative, driven and result-oriented Marketing Fellow to gain hands-on experience in professional sports marketing. This opportunity is designed for recent graduates looking to develop skills in digital marketing, fan engagement, sponsorship activation, and event promotion at the highest level of hockey. The Marketing Fellow will work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance fan engagement, support sponsorships, and increase ticket sales while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
In addition to the duties described above, the Marketing Fellow will also participate in the Penguins’ exclusive Leadership Development Program. This program will provide regular opportunities for professional development, exposure to organizational leadership, and the ability to develop skills critical for the Fellow’s future career growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Campaign Development & Execution: Assist in the creation, implementation, and management of marketing campaigns to promote team events, ticket sales, merchandise, and partnerships.
- Fan Engagement: Coordinate fan engagement initiatives across multiple channels, including social media, email, and in-arena activations, to build loyalty and drive attendance.
- Event Management: Plan and execute marketing events such as game nights, fan festivals, and special promotions to increase visibility and engagement.
- Content Creation: Develop and manage digital content (e.g., social media posts, website updates, video content) to drive audience interaction and excitement for the team.
- Partnership Support: Work closely with sponsors to fulfill partnership obligations, including activating sponsorships and assisting with brand visibility at events.
- Market Research & Reporting: Conduct research on market trends, fan preferences, and competitor activities to inform marketing strategies and enhance fan experiences.
- Collaborative Work: Collaborate with the creative, sales, and operations teams to ensure consistent messaging and cohesive strategies across all marketing efforts.
- Administrative Support: Provide logistical support for campaigns and events, assist in maintaining budgets, and track performance metrics.
Qualifications & Skills
- Recent graduate (within the past 1-2 years) with a degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Sports Management, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and how to use those tools to communicate to internal and external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media trends, and fan engagement strategies.
- Familiarity with CRM tools and email marketing platforms.
- Knowledge of marketing and analytics tools and the ability to generate reports
- Passion for hockey and knowledge of the NHL landscape.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro), Canva, or other design/video tools is a plus.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support events and campaigns.
- Detail-oriented, highly motivated, and able to work independently or within a team.
