Position Overview
The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is seeking a Manager of Community Hockey, to assist in the day-to-day operations of the department with a focus on community outreach and growing the game of hockey. This role will primarily oversee off-ice hockey programs, cultivate relationships with key community partners, and manage grassroots initiatives that enhance hockey accessibility and engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Outreach & Program Management
  • Represent the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation with professionalism and uphold its mission and core pillars.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for off-ice community hockey partners, including Dek Hockey, CitiParks, Parks & Recreation among others.
  • Facilitate hockey-related educational initiatives, outreach programs and youth engagement efforts.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments to plan, organize, and execute grassroots events.
  • Develop strategies for data collection and participation tracking to enhance program impact.

PensFIT Ball Hockey Program
  • PensFIT is the first step in the player progression plan, and the implementation of the PensFIT Ball Hockey program is critical to engaging children in elementary and middle schools in the game of hockey.
  • Manage the PensFIT Ball Hockey program, an introductory school-based initiative aligned with physical education standards.
  • Collaborate with the area rink operators and develop relationships with school districts, school board executives and educators.
  • Lead teacher training sessions to ensure effective curriculum implementation.
  • Coordinate the ordering and distribution of equipment to participating schools.
  • Organize and execute hockey-themed school assemblies and visits to engage students.
  • Work with internal teams to develop promotional materials (graphics, videos, social media content, printed resources).
  • Serve as the main point of contact for partnership integration and activation.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators to measure program success and support revenue generation.
Grassroots & Special Events
  • Serve as the relationship manager for dek/street hockey leagues.
  • Lead Puck Partners program administration, including scheduling clinics, promoting events, and coordinating participation efforts.
  • Develop strategies for brand engagement with local leagues.
  • Plan, organize, and execute various community hockey events.
  • Collaborate within department on shared initiatives such as on-ice clinics, in-arena game experiences, and girls’ program.
Characteristics/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in teaching, community engagement, program management, or a related area.
  • Ice hockey coaching, playing experience and skating proficiency strongly preferred.
  • Highly motivated and organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Passion for sports and youth development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong public speaking experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Positive mindset with a strong team-oriented approach.
  • Availability to work game days, special events, nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain USA Hockey coaching certification, SafeSport clearance, and all necessary state clearances.
