Senior Manager, Communications

Major League Baseball is seeking a Senior Manager, Communications to support the execution of media relations and MLB’s entertainment initiatives related to promoting MLB players, original MLB programming, entertainment partnerships, and marketing efforts. This role will play a key part in promoting the league’s brand, enhancing player visibility, and supporting marquee events such as the All-Star Game. The ideal candidate has a strong background in entertainment publicity, general interest media relations, publicity around the cross-section of sports and culture, and bilingual communications (Spanish fluency preferred). This role offers a unique chance to develop creative opportunities, shape the global narrative of baseball by amplifying player voices, engaging entertainment media, and bringing the game to new audiences. The ideal candidate has deep relationships in entertainment media, experience working with production companies and studios, a successful history of working with talent, knowledge of working in social media and influencer culture, and a track record of developing compelling storylines that shape reputations and advance narratives.
Responsibilities
- Support media strategy to promote player-driven storytelling across sports, entertainment, culture, general interest and lifestyle outlets.
- Act as a liaison between players, agents, Clubs, and media to facilitate interviews, press opportunities, and content development.
- Assist in the development of press releases, media materials, talking points, and editorial content to enhance player visibility.
- Identify and pitch compelling player-related storylines to maximize coverage across traditional and digital media.
- Provide on-site media relations support at major events, including All-Star Week, Postseason and World Series.
- Collaborate with production companies, studios, and content teams to support PR campaigns for original programming, documentaries, and entertainment partnerships.
- Assist in the execution of promotional strategies for TV and digital content, ensuring broad media coverage.
- Coordinate with internal teams to align messaging and promotional efforts across digital, broadcast, and social media.
- Join SVP in working closely with MLB media partners to promote their involvement, game coverage, and viewership successes with partner PR staffs
- Support the public relations and publicity efforts for Jewel Events including Opening Day, All-Star Week, World Series, and international series.
- Work with internal teams to develop event-related press materials and media messaging.
- Promote appearance of high profile and famous attendees at MLB games.
- Monitor media coverage and flag potential reputation management issues related to players, events, and brand partnerships.
- Work closely with the league’s communications and legal teams to ensure appropriate messaging in sensitive situations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a closely related discipline is strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, or player publicity in sports, media, or entertainment.
- Experience working with athletes, talent agencies, production studios, or entertainment PR highly preferred.
- Strong media relationships with sports, lifestyle, and entertainment outlets.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting press releases, messaging, and executive materials.
- Bilingual (Spanish fluency highly preferred) for media relations and multicultural marketing support.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with content management, PR distribution tools, and social media monitoring platforms.
- Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings as required for games and events.
Pay Range: $90,000 - $110,000
