Overview of Role

Rothschild & Co is the largest and most experienced independent debt advisory team globally, with >50 dedicated debt professionals in London and >200 globally, we have advised on over 3,000 advisory and restructuring assignments totaling over $2.3 trillion of debt in the last 10 years. Real Estate Debt Advisory sits within our Real Estate sector coverage team which is the leading and largest team in Europe (with over 55 bankers) offering comprehensive real estate advisory expertise across different sub-sectors of real estate (e.g. commercial, living, housebuilding and hotels & leisure) across a broad suite of corporate finance advisory services (e.g. M&A, debt, equity raising). Real Estate is one of the few divisions within the organisation to have its own integrated debt advisory practice – which is a unique and important product offering to our real estate clients.

Our deep understanding of financial markets, the high volume of transactions we advise on, and our unrivalled network of industry and financing specialists in 40 countries, provide clients with a comprehensive perspective to achieve their strategic goals. We provide impartial, expert advice to our core client base of large and mid-sized private equity investors, investment grade corporates (REITs), Sovereign Wealth Funds, family offices and entrepreneurs across Europe. We design and execute strategic financing solutions to help our clients reach their goals, acting as a trusted partner, taking a long-term and independent view on the challenges they face.

Responsibilities

  • Be an integral part of deal teams by participating in all aspects of financing transactions from strategy through to execution:
    • draft key transaction materials to effectively present the client’s credit story and key debt structuring requirements (i.e. lender presentations, financial forecasts, Requests for Proposals)
    • undertake debt capacity, financial covenant and credit rating modelling
    • communicate and co-ordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders (i.e. clients, 3rd party advisers, lenders)
    • Reviewing term sheets, legal implementation and debt documents, and defining supporting analysis and arguments for negotiation purposes
  • Support the wider team’s business development and marketing initiatives:
    • contribute content to client advice books by conducting ad-hoc analysis
    • research relevant market trends, optimising various sources of information
    • update and maintain market databases, regular market updates and credentials

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent: 2:1 or above
  • ACA (or equivalent) qualified: first time passes (advantage but not essential)

Experience, Skills and Competencies Required

  • Prior experience in a real estate advisory, lending or investing role
  • Proven quantitative and analytical skills to develop financial models with a deep understanding of financial statement analysis notably the building of debt schedules and understanding of key credit metrics
  • Ability to build effective relationships internally between individuals, teams and across lines of business and different geographies
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects in an extremely fast paced environment to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly as well as persuade and influence others
  • Knowledge of fundamental financial principles and experience of applying these
  • Knowledge of the European real estate market
  • Familiarity with various debt instruments (bonds, bank loans, senior/junior/mezzanine, secured/unsecured) and understanding of the European debt market is desirable but not essential
  • Effective relationship building skills with multiple stakeholders internally and externally
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (notably Excel and PowerPoint) and relevant data platforms
  • Aptitude for ongoing personal and professional development
