This job contributes to Starbucks success by supporting company-wide transaction execution and strategic business development. It supports the development and evaluation of new business opportunities, execution of company mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, investments, and joint ventures. Assimilates financial and non-financial information to influence short, medium and long-range decision making. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.


As a corporate development associate, you will…
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following. It is expected that a candidate will be able to satisfy these responsibilities with routine direction from a supervisor.
• Support the identification and prioritization of potential strategic opportunities through M&A, Strategic Alliances, Strategic Investments, and Joint Ventures
• Support the assessment of potential strategic opportunities using financial and non-financial information from public and private sources
• Perform financial modeling and analysis to support valuation, transaction structures, and quantify the impact to the business unit and/or enterprise
• Compile concise, fact-based analysis to convey key points of the potential opportunity
• Collaborate with internal, cross-functional teams to support analysis as appropriate, including accounting, tax, legal, and others functions as needed
• Collaborate with external service providers as appropriate
• Support the transaction-related business planning with cross-functional teams
• Coordinate and execute the due diligence process, including management of a Virtual Data Room
• Support the team in its preparation for negotiations
• Support transaction handoff process, including communication of key aspects of financial models and deal terms
• Track and assess industry and M&A trends that impact our company, our competitors, and our business partners
• Become the team expert in certain areas within each transaction
• Utilize an appropriate, concise and timely communication approach for providing updates to the team and internal stakeholders
• Support the preparation of effective presentation materials that are appropriately tailored to the audience
• Prioritize and plan work among multiple projects
• Initiate action in the absence of specific direction; Seeks ways to continuously improve work product
• Act with professionalism at all times
• Approach assignments with enthusiasm and collaborative spirit
• Act as a role model and set a positive example among peers

We’d love to hear from people with:
• Undergraduate degree and consistent record of high performance
• Investment/M&A analysis, valuation and financial modeling 2-3 years
• Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workload
• Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas and creative solutions
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in ambiguous situations
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
• Proven communication skills, both verbal and written
• Energetic, resourceful self-starter with high integrity, skilled at developing and maintaining highly effective relationships
Preferred Qualifications
• Academic concentration in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Statistics is preferred
• Experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development is highly preferred

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
