Adjudicate and resolve third-party bodily injury and property damage claims brought against the Company. The sr. claims adjuster will make final decisions regarding legal liability, coverage, and/or claim compensability and negotiate full and final settlement of claims within the position’s authority. The sr. claims adjuster will evaluate subrogation potential, maintain claim file information to ensure full compliance with records retention policies, and work closely with the third party claims administrator and the Company’s legal and corporate affairs team.
As a sr. claims adjuster, you will…
- Conduct general liability claim investigations utilizing all available resources to gather information concerning the origin and direct cause of loss so that legal liability, coverage and/or claim compensability can be fully assessed.
- Adjudicate and resolve third-party bodily injury and property damage claims. Make final decisions regarding legal liability, coverage and/or claim compensability and negotiate full and final settlement of claims. Issue payment(s) to third parties, business units, and vendors as appropriate.
- Work closely with various departments within the Company including our retail operations, legal and corporate affairs, facilities, and sourcing; the third-party claims administrator; and insurance carriers for any claims that may exceed or will exceed an insurance policy deductible or self-insured retention.
- Evaluate subrogation potential and identify opportunities to seek reimbursement for a loss from at-fault parties that may be legally responsible for a loss. May tender claims directly to responsible parties, or, alternatively, will formalize and present claim demands in pursuit of reimbursement.
- Maintain comprehensive written and electronic claim file information and ensure full compliance with department and/or Company claim handling protocols, record retention policies, and personal information privacy policies.
- Leads and/or participate in claim roundtables and claim reviews and collaborates with all claims team members to ensure consistency of claim handling protocols.
- Provide training to new claim team members and assist with the development of claim adjusters.
- Develop claim handling guidelines and processes.
- Serves as a representative of the risk management claims team on inter-departmental working groups.
- Provides guidance to various business units regarding the handling of incidents and the processing of claims.
We’d love to hear from people with:
- At least four (4) years’ experience adjusting third party liability claims, working with a third-party administrator, insurance company, or self-insured company
- General knowledge of insurance and legal principles (2 years)
- Strong customer service skills and actively show these skills in their daily work (2 years)
- The ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple demands simultaneously, be highly organized and detail-oriented, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. (2 years)

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
